Ransomware Affects 73% Of All Organizations In 2023.
Ransomware continues to grow despite increased user awareness and enhanced corporate controls.
* In 2018 the cost was $8 billion with 55% impacted, in 2023 it will cost $34 billion and impact 73% of all organizations.
* In 2031 the cost to businesses is predicted to be $265 billion!
Why Am I A Target?
Many targets have obvious financial appeal with the possibility of gaining customer or corporate information. Even if a system
would seem not to be valuable, in fact it is very useful to control a trusted system. Threat actors could launch attacks with impunity, store and distribute information, intercept network traffic, and also attempt to move laterally into potentially more lucrative systems.
Botnets and
DDOS attacks use the compromised systems of their unsuspecting hosts.
What Can Be Done?
The good news is that the majority of compromises are targets of opportunity. If you make it too difficult, most threat actors
will move on to easier targets and there are lots of easy targets.
The bad news is that nothing connected can be 100% secure, eventually all systems will have vulnerabilities and available exploits.
At a minimum start here.
